From Father Antoine Chevrier's writings :
Sharing in the life of the poor

The contemplation of the Word made flesh, who came to dwell amongst us for the salvation of the world, has directed the apostolic life of Antoine Chevrier. This led him to give himself totally, to want to be poor among those who are rejected and despised by society, to live their life, to love them, esteem them and to work for their evangelization.
Faithful to is missionary insight, we want to follow Jesus Christ who proclaims the Good News to the poor. We choose to live as an evangelical presence in districts and villages, in different walks of life, among the underpriviliged populations. Christ's call to follow him more closely gathers us in a Community founded on him and on listening to his Word. To know Jesus Christ and to make him know, this is all the life of our communities.

To know Jesus Christ

To grow ... in the knowledge of Jesus Christ for it is the key of all. To know God and His Christ : there is the whole of a human being ... and of a saint ... (Letter 105)

Let us then remain in spirit at the feet of Jesus Christ, like little children at the feet of their master, with a sincere desire to listen to his word and put it into practice. (TD 110)

First we must read and reread the Holy Gospel, be penetrated by it, know it by heart, study each word, each action to grasp the meaning and have it pass into our thoughts and actions.
It is in the prayer of every day that this study must be done and make Jesus Christ pass into our life. (TD 199)

O Christ ! O Word !
Speak, I want to listen to you
and put your word into practice
...
because in your word there is
life, joy,
peace and happiness.
Speak Lord, you are my Lord and my Master
and I want to listen to none but you.
(TD93)

Knowing loving following Him

The Knowledge of Jesus Christ necessarily produces love and more we know Jesus Christ, his beauty, his grandeur, his riches, the more our love for him grows... (TD 100)

When sincerely love somebody, we are happy to follow him, to walk in his footsteps. (TD 102)

In your prayers do hear often ... this word from the Master : follow me ! follow me ! ... (Letter 105)

To follow Jesus Christ is to go everywhere he goes, do everything he does, it is never to leave him ...
It is to follow his example, it is to ressemnle him as perfectly as possible in order to become another him ...
It is not only to follow him exteriorly... but it is also to be filled with his spirit. (TD 299)

The Holy Spirit

The spirit of God ! It is the greatest treasure that God can give to someone ...
To have the spirit of God is everything. (TD 201 and 203)

The Holy Spirit is searching for souls in whom he could reproduce Jesus Christ, give birth to Jesus Christ, in whom he may invite himself in order to reproduce Jesus Christ for the world and make him loved ... When he'll find it ... He'll be glad.
(Manuscript V-405)

The spirit of God, O let us ask for him everyday, do not cease to ask for him ...
(Letter 188)

The spirit of God ... is in Jesus Christ ... How to acquire the spirit of God ?
By studing the Holy Gospel and praying a lot. (TD 196 and 199)

Let Jesus Christ be know

Antoine Chevrier's letters to sister Véronique :

To Know Jesus Christ and his Father, and let Him be known to other people, is this not beautiful enough and don’t we get enough there to occupy the whole of our life ?… I am working myself to it with joy and happiness ; To know how to speak of God and Let Him be known to poor and ignorant people, there lay our life and love. (Letter 181)

Have a great and just idea of your sublime vocation, we must convey faith to other people and communicate some of the Good Lord’s love : how beautiful it is and nothing must discourage us on this way.  (Letter 189)

Sharing in the life of the poor

Thus do love the poor, the little ones ; don’t work at growing and raising yourself up, but work at making yourself small and smaller in order to be equal to the poor, to be with them, to live and die with them… (Letter 114)

I would like to see two or three of you at the corners of streets, in the poorest districts, having only a hut to shelter you. There, you would gather the children and teach them catechism ; you would console the suffering ones, you would make the Good Lord be known. (Sister Gabriel’s deposition)

Jesus Christ ...
He wished to be poor ...
he was born poor.
He put himself among the poor ...
He lived like the poor.
He behaved like the poor,
he lowered himself like the poor ...
He died like the poor.
And all this ...
for love of us. (TD 359)
